SolidWorks Basic Tutorial || Helical/Spring Curve and Sweep

In this tutorial we will learn about the Helical/Spring Curve and Sweep Feature of SolidWorks by creating a ‘Spring’. Helical/Spring Curve tool is used to create helical coil spring or thread feature. In this tutorial we will see how springs can be created by using it. Sweep Feature is used when we want to create a solid using a closed sketch profile and a path. Addition to this we will also watch how to use Surface Extrude, Projected Curve, and Circular Pattern Tools etc. Transcription of Video Create a new part file. Change units of the file to millimeter, gram, second. Create a new sketch over front plane. First create a vertical centerline of infinite length at the origin. This will be used as axis. Next create a circle in the sketch and position is using the dimension as displayed. The sketch is complete so exit from the sketching mode. Switch to feature tab then create a new plane parallel to top plane and at the center point of circle. Now activate the Helix and Spiral tool. Now select the newly created plane to draw a circle which will define the helix cross-section. Draw a circle coincident to the origin of part and previously drawn circle. Helix and Spiral Tool is active first conform, if the start point of curve is coincident to the origin of profile or not. The helix start point can be adjusted by controlling the start angle. We will use Height and Pitch to define the curve. Fill the height and pitch values as shown. Change the direction of the curve to Counterclockwise. Click ok to create the curve. Activate the sweep tool. First define the Sweep profile then the path. Click Ok to execute the command. Change the colour of the model as per your wish. Now create a new sketch over right plane. Use convert entities tool to project the edges of spring and draw the following sketch. Fully define the sketch by adding dimensions and constrains. The sketch is complete so exit from the sketching mode. Again create a new sketch over front plane as displayed. Switch to surface tab and activate extrude surface tool. Select the sketched arc and from the direction 1 filed define the Mid Plate option. Drag this arrow to define the length of extrude. Click green check mark to create the surface extrude feature. Next activate projected curve tool. First define sketch to project then projection face. Reverse the projection direction and preview will be visible. Click green check mark to execute the command. Now create a new sketch over this face and project this edge in the sketch. Now activate sweep tool and create a sweep feature as displayed. Now draw a new sketch over right plane to be used as axis. Activate circular pattern tool. First define feature to pattern and then the pattern axis. Fill the angle for the pattern. Click green check mark to execute the command. The model is complete so save the file. Click the following link to get the model file: http://bit.ly/32kr4y6

Autodesk Inventor Basic Tutorial || Coil and Sweep

In this tutorial, we will learn about the Coil and Sweep Feature of Autodesk Inventor by creating a ‘Spring’.   Coil Tool is used to creating helical coil spring or thread feature. In this tutorial, we will see how springs can be created by using it. Sweep Feature is used when we want to create a solid using a closed sketch profile and a path. Addition to this, the creation process of the Helical Curve and Circular Pattern Tool is also displayed in the video.  Note:—The video does not have audio assistance but we have given sufficient amount of pause over the tool tip and command prompt so that they can be read easily…must focus on them to learn and understand the software in detail.   Click the following link to get the model file: –http://bit.ly/33gbq8c

Creo Parametric Basic Tutorial || Revolve and Pattern

In this tutorial, we will learn about the Revolve and Pattern Feature of Creo Parametric by developing a solid named ‘mhousing’. Revolve Feature is used when we want to create a solid by revolving a closed sketch profile through a specified angle and along an axis. Pattern Feature is used when we want to replicate a feature. This can be one or two-dimensional array of that feature. In this tutorial addition to these tools, the general part modelling process of creating Basic Sketches, Shell Tool, Extrude Tool with cut operation etc. are also displayed. Transcription of Video First we will define the Working Directory. Create a new part file utilizing the metric template and give it the name ‘mhousing’. Clear the screen by closing the visibility of Axis, Points, Spin centre, etc. Create a new sketch over ‘Front Datum Plane’. Orient the sketching plane parallel to the screen by clicking Sketch View icon. Activate the line tool and draw the sketch as displayed. Change the dimension values as displayed. Now draw a Rectangle. Convert these lines into construction geometry. Complete the sketch by adding some more lines. Apply the dimensions as displayed. Delete this automatic applied constrain to specify new dimension. Add a Centerline in the sketch. The sketch is complete so exit from the sketching mode. Activate the Revolve Tool. From the Placement Tab define the sketch. You can see the software has automatic selected Internal Centerline as Axis. Click green check mark to execute the command. Change the colour of the model as per your wish. Save the file. Activate Round Tool. Specify the radius for the ‘Round’. Select this edge of the model to apply the round. Activate the ‘Shell’ Tool. Specify the thickness of the model. Switch to Reference Tab and define the faces to be removed. Click green check mark to execute the command. Activate section along X direction. Now you can examine the internal view of the model. Deactivate the section view. Again create a new sketch over ‘Front Datum Plane’. Set the display of the model in ‘Hidden Line Display’. Draw the sketch as displayed. Activate the Extrude Tool. Select the sketch and activate remove material option. Click green check mark to execute the command. Select the Extrude Feature form the Model Tree and activate Pattern Tool. Select direction as type of the Pattern. Select Axis to define the direction reference. Fill the number of the members to be patterned. Enter the spacing between the patterned members. Click green check mark to execute the command. Select the previously created Pattern Feature from the Model Tree and again activate Pattern Tool. Select axis as type of the Pattern. Next define the axis. Number of the members to be patterned and angle between them has already filled so click the green check mark to execute the command. The model is complete so save the file and delete all the old version files that were saved on your hardware. Click the following link to get the model file: –http://bit.ly/2nkTKsn

Sweep Feature is used when we want to create a solid using a closed sketch profile and a path. First, the path or trajectory is created then the sketch profile. In this tutorial addition to these tools general part modelling process of creating basic sketches, Extruded cut at an angle etc. are also displayed. Transcription of Video Create a new part file utilizing the metric template and give it a name ‘Candle Stick’. Create a new sketch over ‘Front Datum Plane’. Clear the screen by closing the visibility of Datum Planes, Axis, Points, Spin centre, etc. Orient the sketching plane parallel to the screen by clicking Sketch View icon. Activate the line tool and draw the sketch as displayed. Change the dimension values as displayed. Again start creating sketch using the line and 3-Point/Tangent End tool. While sketch is being created the constraints are applied automatically. Apply the dimensions as displayed. The sketch is complete so exit from the sketching mode. Activate the Revolve Tool. In the placement Tab first define the sketch profile and then the Axis. Angle for the revolve is automatic filled 360°. Click green check mark to execute the command.
